SOUND EFFECTS WORK SHOP EVALUATION

For this particular task we were to remove sound effects from one of the scenes uploaded on to the arts and media file and replace them with the ones we found online. The scene I chose was the opening scene from Watchmen. The website which we used is called www.freesound.com. The sounds I had listed down for the first section of the clip include the following; Channel switching, kicking down a wooden door, tightening leather gloves, water pouring out of a cup, glass smashing, and gun shots.
Some of the sounds where not easy to find or to synch with the moving image. For example I had a hard time synchronising the the channel switch to the television in the clip. That was the most difficult sound effect to sync. The easiest sound to find and synch was the single gun shot that was fired in the whole scene. After that though there was a fighting scene which I was unable to find initial sound effects for so i decided to cut my clip short.
Overall, I feel that I understood the main focus of the task and I was able to find suitable sound effects to match the scene and insert them in with precision and careful editing.

  1. When i listed to your work i thought that the sound effects that were used were n sync with the objects and actions that were happening on screen. i liked your use of the sound effect of the fighting scene it conveyed a tense mood and gave me a understanding of the genre of the film sequence with is actions

  2. what worked well: the sounds effect that really worked well were the door kicking and the glass being throw against the door, it was on the spot. the watch sound created a tension mood

what didn't work well: she added voices into her clip when there was no need to, the only think that was needed was sound effects

  3. Effective summary of a workshop demonstrating knowledge of and skills in working independently ,audio editing, , and the link between sound and image in producing mood and meaning for an audience. Further opportunities to produce sound and analyse the creation of sound effects will ensure you get the chance to get the best possible grade for these criteria.
