Task 1: Moving sound image quiz
1a) Name the three main elements of moving image sound tracks.
- Spoken word
- Sound  effects
- Music
1b) Summarise the difference between diegetic and non diegetic music and give an example for each
Diegetic sound is that which is in the world of the film, this means that the characters of the movie can here it. For example characters in a conversation with one another. Non diegetic sound is sound which is put into the film after the editing process. This is for the audience. For example back ground music, voice overs etc. Like in The Tranformers Trilogy the voice of Optimus Prime delivers a voice over in the beginning and the end of each three films.
1c) Summarise the difference between synchronous and non synchronous sound effects and give an example of each.
Synchronous sound is that where the sound is in perfect timing with the object or character producing the sound for example lip syncing. While non synchronous/asynchronous  sound is when the sound and the object or character which it is coming from do not match. For example in The animated movie The Simpsons, as Homer the leading character and Marge rode away on his motorcycle and shared a kiss, there was music in the background which didn't match the scene but was played to set the mood for the audience.
1c) List at lest three different types of spoken word in film audio with an example of each and post links of these examples on to your blog.
Dialogue refers to conversations by the characters in the film is a form of diegetic sound. For example in the movie Shrek, when Shrek and donkey where on their way to rescue the princess from the tower they engaged in a two man conversation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-TZNGaktP0
Voice over is where a voice from the outside gives the audience information on the story and sometimes it is a character in the story. For example in the Television programme Scrubs the main character John Dorian delivers voice overs that tell the audience about the lessons learnt in the programme.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLsyUZ2nGbo.
Sound mixing refers to mixing sound fro various sources using a multi track desk. Much of the dialogue can be remixed afterwards because the spoken words are recorded afterwards. For example in Transformers Two when the main character was injured a lot of the sound was mixed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRccnYPNgLE (unfortunately I was unable to find a clear version)
